At the tail end of last month I posted 3 videos in three weeks and my goal set last month was to post a video a week in September.
Now I didn’t manage to do this as planned but I did publish for the first 4 weeks of the month to take a streak of 7 straight weeks publishing a video. Now this doesn’t sound like much but for someone who traditionally could go months (if not years) without uploading this was something of a breakthrough and it showed in my numbers this month.
I was able to do this because most importantly I dedicated the time to do it and made it my priority but also because I had my “B” formats which meant a quicker production and upload cycle reducing the pressure on my time.
Having said that a number of projects such as finishing my upcoming book were put on hold so dedicating more time to uploads has had an effect on my overall output.
This is something I need to try and balance going forward.
My most popular video that month (and a video that would go on to be my all time most popular at the time of writing this) was actually a quick and easy screen recording without me appearing on screen and so I feel a little vindicated in reviving that particular format.
Although I know that it would be better for me to appear on camera on all videos I need to find a compromise in my current situation.
The video got 800 views in that month – significantly higher than the channel average – here is that video:
Even though I don’t appear on camera there is one standout point that I feel redeems it somewhat and that is the viewer shoutout that I give at the beginning:
Here I feature the original question that inspired me to make the video and this is great for a number of reasons:
- It lets my community feel like a part of the process – even if it’s not their question
2. The person who gets the shoutout is not only happy to have their questions answered but is more likely to share the video with their networks
3. This encourages more comments, discussions and questions which will be content ideas for my future videos.
And it’s the answering of people’s YouTube questions that was the original mission (and reason behind the name) of FAQ Tube, so I feel good about getting back to the roots of the channel.

Ok, let's look at this month's stats...
· Total views for period = 3800 – 53% increase
· Total subs added = 47 – 25% increase
· Total subs lost = 10
· Total subs = 324 – 13% overall subs growth
· Total Watch Time = 4326 – 67% increase
· % views from Search = 21% - 5% increase
· % views from Suggested = 7.6% - 192% increase
I’m very happy to big increases in Views, Watch Time and a decent bit of subs growth. No doubt this has to do with me more frequently uploading but also in the same process growing my footprint on the platform.
The more videos you have the more likely someone will find you and then go on to watch more of your older videos.
What I’m most happy about is seeing my percentage of views coming from Suggested videos really increase, almost tripled in fact. This is also a product of my consistency after the re-launch and having more videos in my back catalogue to actually suggest.
I’m hoping to pick the streak back up after missing the last week in September and seeing continued growth in my key numbers.
